In addition to our clinical mentoring programs,
all-day seminars, assessment skills workshops,
and on-site CEU sessions, Education Solutions
also offers training on a new, innovative
program specifically designed to improve communication
between nurses and physicians working in the
long term care industry.
The program, called SBAR (Situation,
Background, Assessment, Recommendation)
for Long Term Care, provides nurses and
physicians with a standardized framework
for communicating critical information to
and among members of a patient's health
care team. This framework is essential to
the safe and efficient care of patients
because it helps nurses and physicians communicate
information more effectively with each other
in a concise and consistent manner.
Originally developed by Safer Healthcare
for use by hospitals and other acute care
facilities, SBAR for Long Term Care was
designed with the assistance of Education
Solutions to enhance the quality of nurse-to-nurse
and nurse-to-physician communications and
promote patient safety in long term care
facilities and other sub-acute units.
Key components of the training program include
seminars and workshops, which provide a
detailed overview of the SBAR framework
and discuss the importance of SBAR in providing
clear, concise and standardized communications,
especially during physician updates, patient
transfers and shift changes. The seminars
also provide a comprehensive analysis of
physical assessment in the geriatric patient
and an interactive review of patient case
studies that incorporate the use of SBAR.
SBAR
TOOLKIT for Long Term Care
Enhance
the communication skills of nurses working
in the extended care industry.
The toolkit, which is available through
Education Solutions, facilitates compliance
with JCAHO patient safety goals by standardizing
hand-off communications and providing
opportunities for nurses and physicians
to ask and respond to questions. In
addition, nurses who attend an SBAR
seminar or workshop are eligible to
receive contact hours. |
